i enjoy using my acer aspire one, it has 120GB hard drive, 1gb ram and is at the moment duel booting ubuntu 9.10 and windows 7. My acer came with windows XP but in all honestly i wouldnt recommand running XP on it just because there are many better alternatives such as windows 7 and ubuntu than a OS that is almost 10 years old.
I am currently studying at university and it was important to have a laptop that was portable and the acer is indeed portable, however the machine is very under powered when compared to a ‘real’ laptop and althought the keyboard is good i wouldnt advise long eassys on but if like most people you only want to use microsoft word and browse the internet it is a good machine.
However there is a catch i never do any real work on it i find the keyboard to be awkward for coding and typing and the screen too small to be of any use when browsing the internet (you must use full screen to at leat see half of a web page), many people on my course have one but there are very much a tinkering machine a plaything to try the latest linux distros and to get “under the hood” of a computer. The battery life is also very poor i take the charger everywere with me.
I dont know how this machine could fit in really you need a desktop or a “prober” laptop then have it as a little portable machine that you can take with you then it would make a good machine if this is the case i would suggest getting a smaller (solid state drive)SSD rather then a larger tradtional hard drive this would speed up the netbook considerable and spend a bit of money on a large USB stick to store your files. This is how i use my machine and it suits university life very well always having my important files ready to edit and can use them on any computer.
Overall though a good machine

this machine is very nice running linux , but to really get the most of this machine you need to get windows7 installed. this can be very tricky however with a bit of google searching it can be done. I have completed the installation and now this machine is perfect, fast and very graphical and flow…..very nice !

I got an Acer for my son at Christmas, it was working fine for a couple of months then the screen went black one day. Since then it has been back to Acer 5 times to get the same problem re-repaired over & over again! The machine is obviously a faulty one but Acer have refused to replace it like for like! This purchase has been a complete waste of time & money.

I like it, allot! the operating system is simple and easy to use, the web cam is clear and sharp and I’ve no trouble with the wifi. it’s a nice little netbook with allot of cool feature’s and the games that come with it are top’s, cos lets face it you can’t beat Tetras
The only draw back, you can’t play AVI files. so I can’t load up video’s and film’s which is a pain but meah!
I’m still swinging from keeping the current operating system and installing windows XP but we’ll see.
