Don’t buy this if you’re looking for a card writer. Reviews say that it reads all sorts of cards fine but no reviews mention whether it writes. Let me be the first; if it is supposed to write I couldn’t get it to, no matter what I tried. Its on its way back to Amazon for a refund.

This is the first gadget I have purchased that does not indicate which way to insert the card. So I followed the instructions that came with my older card reader, two cameras, digital photo frame, and television set, and tried to insert the card “face up”. It was difficult and I had no way of knowing how much pressure to apply. Concerned about how hard it was I telephoned ABC and was told that the card should be inserted upside down. Why do they assume I should know that?

OK, so I bought this card reader in an attempt to resurrect a very old digital camera of mine, so the kids can use it for school. The camera is a Fujifilm DX-9, and is about 12 or 13 years old. This camera isn’t supported on Windows XP (don’t know why, it’s just TWAIN), so a card reader was needed to get pictures off the Smart Media memory card.

This product has no manual or instructions…shouldn’t really need one, it looks so simple! Plugging it into the computer, usual “found new hardware” comes up, and 4 new disc drives appear on the computer – one for each of the reader slots on the device. Plugging a memory card into the appropriate slot, the ACT (activity?) light comes on.

Trying the reader with an SD card, on plugging the card in the SD light comes on solidly. Trying it with the Fuji SM card, the SM light comes on, but flashes. Exploring into the appropriate disc drive on the computer, Windows has a bit of a think about it, and then says there’s no disc in the drive. The SM card works fine in the camera.

So, I don’t know if I just have a really really old, and incompatible SM card (who knows what filesystem Fuji were using back in the mid-late ’90s?), or if there’s something wrong with that slot in the reader.

Have gone to ABC Products’ website, and found it’s just a shop front, no support offered on-line, although there is a phone number which I haven’t tried yet.

The product itself is very smart, very compact, and if it worked as I’d hoped would have been an easy 5 stars.

At the price this is a very low risk purchase – and guess what, it works perfectly with a totally no fuss set up!

A great return service on delivery – I cannot understand what some reveiwers are moaning about!

This is the second multi card reader I have bought from ABC Products. After trying out the first one (for my Dad), I had to have one myself…

The product itself is brilliant and the item arrived so quickly after ordering.

I can highly recommend this for anyone that has a digital camera OR any product that uses the supported cards…

Thanks also to Amazon UK for putting this product AND this great company on it’s pages!!!

Cheers

Dave…
