My first pair of these sounded great – excellent bass and highs.
Unfortunately they failed after about 6 months with a broken wire close to the plug. This was possibly my fault for wrapping the wires around my old iPod shuffle when not in use, but if you’re not supplied with a case then how else am I supposed to avoid tangling the wires?
Anyway, I got a replacement set for myself, and another for my wife.
The new ones are awful. Very little bass except at high volume, highs are too harsh and mids sound like they’re coming from the back of a large empty warehouse. I keep having to try other earphones mid-song to prove to myself that the CX300’s are OK and it’s just the song – but it’s not. The new sets are very lacking in mid and bass and are very disappointing.
I’m going to try fixing the old set by grafting the plug from the new set onto them, because they were great, but right now I’m putting up with the better sounding-but painful to wear standard iPod white earphones. The new CX300’s are awful.
Next time I’ll try the Denon C551 or C351

Being honest, I do actually love these headphones. They look great, sound great, and feel great (sort of). I had used these headphones for about 6 months, until last week the sound stopped playing through one side. I think that for £15, 6 months without any faults is pretty good, especially since I carelessly wrapped the wire around my iPod after each use.
The sound quality of these headphones is unbelievable. I cannot say one bad thing about the quality of the sound. The main problem is that they dont stop falling out of my ears! I usually listen to music whilst on the go, i.e whilst walking. As you can imagine, it got quite annoying having to put the headphones back into my ears every 2 minutes. But the most annoying thing is, what I think causes this problem is the wire. The wire is made of a material which easily gets caught on your clothes, and this is the reason why the headphones always fall out. Had Sennheiser have made the wire smooth and non-sticky, I think I wouldn’t have had any problems. I’d advise anyone who is thinking of buying these headphones to think about when they would use them. They are great if you like to listen to music when you are not on the go. I found that the headphones were great when I was studying or doing written work. But if you plan to use these headphones when you are moving around, I would look elsewhere unless you don’t mind putting them back in you ears each time they fall out.

I got given a pair of CX300s for Christmas 2006 and there were brilliant. They have lasted all year so far and I am still using them regularly(unlike the earphones that came with my mp3 which broke after 6 months).
They also don’t fall out easily. You could go cycling or running and they will stay in there. (However sometimes they do push themselves out of your ear if you use to large a “setting” for them).
The audio quality was outstanding from the start and is currently (as would be expected) not as good as new yet it is still above satisfactory with all levels of audio coming through clearly.
I’ve had a pair of these for a while replacing an earlier pair of Senny IE4s (the same type, but they go with stage headsets). Absolutely brilliant sound as long as you push them right in and get a good seal.
Several have mentioned sound transmitted by the cable as you walk or run. Easy answer is to put them in with the cable facing up and then take it round the top and down the back of your ears. It takes a little while for the cable to settle in to being used in that position, but warming it slightly helps.

These Headphone are great, not one disappointment. Got them and use them – no messing with the leads. Great. Thanks
